ERIC on Cross-Border Teleworking Rights in the EU

Described by the European Labour Authority as a “commonly increasing phenomenon,” cross-border telework allows EU citizens and their family members to live and work from any Member State of the EU. While this flexibility opens up exciting opportunities, it can also be challenging for employees, employers, and self-employed citizens to navigate the complex immigration, social security, tax, and labour rules that apply when working from two or more EU countries.

Building on its strong expertise in the field, ECAS has developed ERIC to provide citizens with precise, reliable answers about cross-border teleworking. ERIC is equipped with information drawn from official EU and national legislation, as well as from ECAS’s own Teleworking Info Toolkit. This toolkit addresses key questions around social security, tax, labour law, and immigration when teleworking within the EU — particularly where the employer is registered in one Member State and the worker carries out their work in another using information technology.
